The Lion And The Mouse
The Lion And The Mouse
A Lion who was hot and tired from hunting, lay down under a big shady oak
tree. When he fell asleep a company of little mice played around and over him.
The Lion woke with a start and slapped his big paw down on one of them and
held him fast.
"Please don`t kill me, Lion," squeaked the Mouse. "I didn`t mean any harm
and if you will let me go I`ll help you out sometime."
"Haw! haw!" laughed the Lion, "a little smidge like you help me! That is
funny." But the Lion wasn`t really mean and he felt quite happy, so he let the
Mouse go.
Not long after that the Lion ran into a big net that some hunters had set
to catch him. He let out a roar that shook the forest all around. The Mouse
heard him and thought he recognized the voice of his friend, so he went over
to see what had happened.
There was the Lion all tangled up in the rope net, just about ready to
give up and wait for the hunters to come and kill him.
"Well, Lion, even you are in a fix this time," said the Mouse, and with
his sharp little teeth he gnawed the net apart until the Lion could crawl out
and run free.
The point - Kindness is a good thing for all of us to practice, no matter
how big or small we are.
